Had a hard time liking this book. I only read the second and third to finish the set. I still wonder why this book exists: But one of my least favorite Anne Rice books It felt like by the time she started writing this book she was tired of the story. Anne’s prose was literary and lovely. It’s clear that he is supposed to juxtapose against Lasher, as a natural and very benevolent being compared to a rapey and invasive posession-bound extrahuman ghost-thing; but his gentleness is so absurdly one-note that he seems more like a puppy or a kitten than an actual person.

Although he is intelligent and can be obsessive when it comes to work, Taltos are naturally soft-hearted, docile, and easily distracted. If you’ve already been sucked into the Mayfair trilogy, you’re going to have to read this book.
